PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP WITH JOHN MORRISON

 

In John's workshop, 3 bands will perform 2 tunes each to receive feedback and tips for improvement with focus on getting that authentic big band sound.

VOCAL/CHOIR SESSIONS WITH JACKI COOPER

​

The Big Band Singer 

 

Singing big band repertoire is more than just learning the melody and lyrics. Learn the key steps to singing a big band chart authentically. 

​

The Big Sing 

 

In this session, you can take a break from playing your instrument and learn a jazz choir chart. We will be learning "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't Ma Baby" by Louis Jordan. 

 

Hear it! Sing it! PLay it!

 

Leave your instruments at the door and come ready to sing. This vocal workshop is designed to get instrumentalists to use their voice to practice their charts. They will learn to sing a big band chart using appropriate jazz language and phrasing as well as learning some fun warm up songs.

Vocal Masterclass

​

Come prepared with a song of any genre (use backing track or sing unaccompanied) to get feedback on vocal technique and performance. 

 

FREESTYLING WITH ANDREW ROBERTSON

 

Improvisation workshop. Discover simple methods to build your improvising skills in the beginner/intermediate session, or add to your existing improv skills in the intermediate/advanced workshop. 

 

BIG BAND JAM WITH ERIC DUNAN

 

Eric will run the big band jam with a great selection of charts to challenge everyone’s sight-reading skills. 

Big Band Jam sessions are aimed at beginner-intermediate readers who want to have some fun reading new charts while the Sight-reading Smash Out is aimed at those wanting more of a reading and playing challenge.
